Maritime Cook Islands (“MCI”), the international ship registry, has significantly strengthened its ranks, with four new appointments, which will better serve the growing community of yacht and vessel owners of MCI.
The MCI’s book of business has been growing steadily over the years and supporting its growth is the strengthening of MCI network of DRs and surveyors. This is so that owners have a contact point in the area close to them, to personally address their needs and queries more promptly and efficiently.
Andrea is a newly-appointed Surveyor and Yacht Technical Expert of MCI, and will be based in Italy.
Andrea has over 10 years of experience in the shipping industry, specifically on recreational and charter crafts in Italy, providing surveys and technical consultancy. He is also a full member of the International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS), having attained it in 2014.

Andrea is also a freelance technical consultant for ships and those of mega-yacht status – performing economical evaluation, pre-purchase surveys, and claims for assurance companies and private owners.
Marin Sobin
Marin Sobin takes on a new appointment as the Deputy Registrar for Croatia, and he will serve the growing community of yacht owners in the region.

Marin is based in Croatia, with more than 29 years of experience in the shipping industry, spanning across ship surveys, shipbuilding design as well as maritime consultancy work. His appointment underlines MCI’s move to strengthen its European presence.
Marin comes from an electrical engineering background, and has his own firm, Socius d.o.o. where he is the managing director.
Jacques Tourneur
Jacques Tourneur has been appointed as the Deputy Registrar for Philippines. He is also the general manager of Swedish Maritime Services for Philippines.

A certified coastal yacht master and a member of: Board of Scandinavian Maritime Services AB (Sweden), Board of Scandinavian Maritime Services (Philippines), and Board INSB Class Philippines, Jacques is no stranger to the shipping industry and owners can register their yachts with absolute confidence.
Jacques is fluent in Swedish, English and Filipino.

Paolo Favilli
To boost its presence in Europe, MCI has appointed Paolo Favilli as European Manager based in Italy. Paolo is primarily responsible for ongoing business development in the region as well as improving Port State Control performance in the Paris MOU.

As well as this role, Paolo is also the project director at International Maritime Safety, Security and Environment Academy, managing and coordinating activities related to IPSEA Project and supporting the maritime transport sector in Africa.
Of the four new appointments, Paolo will cover merchant vessels specifically in the European region. The rest (Andrea, Marin and Jacques) will be focused on serving the yacht community.

Chief Executive Officer of MCI, Glenn Armstrong said: “We are delighted with our new appointments, and we believe our clients will stand to benefit the most from this development. Our network is growing from strength to strength with experienced and quality maritime professionals and they will certainly play a major role in building up MCI’s book of yacht registration.”
