All three of Mexico’s crude-loading ports on the Gulf Coast — Pajaritos, Cayo Arcas and Dos Bocas — were closed to shipping early Thursday by strong winds and heavy seas generated by a cold front.
Pajaritos is an important petrochemicals port in addition to exporting crude. Dos Bocas has been closed since Wednesday.
The refined products port of Tuxpan has been closed since Tuesday. The petrochemicals port of Altamira was closed for about 24 hours until early Thursday.
On Thursday, the website of Pajaritos reported one tanker laden with crude and bound for St. James, Louisiana, in the US was kept in port by the bad weather.
On Wednesday, an official at the harbormaster’s office in Dos Bocas said only one tanker was unable to leave due to the bad weather. He had no information on its destination, but he said it halted loading as a security measure.
The official added that some 20 vessels that service the production platforms in the Sound of Campeche had taken refuge from the storm at Dos Bocas.
