The official responsible public works and transport in north Cyprus, Hasan Tacoy has said that the privatization of ports in the break-away areas are at an advanced stage, with priority being given to Famagusta port.
In statements during a visit to Keryneia with the Turkish Minister of Transport, Maritime and Communication, Feridun Bilgin Tacoy, he noted that their aim is to develop the maritime sector, with the aim of making it profitable.
He said officials have launched an ‘intensive effort’ for developing the maritime sector. Within this framework, he noted, they wish to establish a Logistical Support Centre, by using Turkey’s experience on this issue.
Referring to the launching of new “coast guard” boats, Tacoy said that this is important for the security of the coasts and added that the “coast guard” has 18 vessels.
Tacoy added that 500,000 euro will be spent for the maintenance of breakwaters at occupied Keryneia Old Marina and its surrounding area.
