Hapag-Lloyd’s new steel-floor container is more environmentally friendly, securer and sturdier. The liner shipping company revealed the container developed in conjunction with its customers to trade professionals and shippers at the Transport Logistic fair in Munich, which started today.
Unlike conventional containers with wooden floors made of bamboo, for example, this new model features a steel floor, making it significantly sturdier and longer-lasting. It is also 150 kilograms lighter than older models thanks to its special corrugated construction, which means it can hold greater cargo volumes without any loss of stability in the steel floor. Another advantage is that steel is fully recyclable, whereas wood is a limited resource which needs to be preserved.
“The steel-floor container we have developed is the ideal combination of economic and ecological advantages. We are confident that it will establish itself as a standard in the medium term,” says Rolf Habben Jansen, Chief Executive Officer of Hapag-Lloyd.
Visitors to the fair have until 8 May to take a look at the new container in the outside area between halls B2 and B3. Hapag-Lloyd employees are manning stand 217 in hall B3 to tell visitors all about the Company’s product portfolio. The Transport Logistic fair is held every two years. With more than 2,000 exhibitors from 62 countries, it is the world’s leading trade fair for logistics, mobility, IT and supply chain management.
