SSA President Esben Poulsson said: “We have aimed to co-opt Councillors with specific expertise across a range of disciplines, and my new team brings on board over two centuries’ worth of accumulated maritime expertise in their specialised fields. I have the utmost confidence that they are fully committed and charged up to take the SSA in the run-up to the next decade.
“Drawing inspiration from our new motto ‘Navigating the Future’, we will actively engage our 460 strong membership to identify and promote our industry’s views on issues of importance to maritime stakeholders at home and abroad. We will endeavour to further strengthen the SSA as a positive force in the maritime community and continue to stand by its long-term interest in enhancing Singapore’s status as an International Maritime Centre,” he said.
“For the next two years, the SSA Council believes SSA must continue its ongoing efforts to grow the Singapore War Risks Mutual (SWRM) – this will further develop the role of marine insurance in Singapore, and to further entrench Singapore as an important maritime insurance hub. Likewise, the development of future leaders and the creation of a Singapore Clause is a key element of the SWRM initiative.
“The Council believes that the impact of digitalisation and other potentially disruptive technologies within the shipping industry will be central to the work of the SSA in the coming years. Through our continuous dialogue with the MPA, we will seek to cooperate with relevant stakeholders, to reap the opportunities from Big Data and digital innovation, in order that our industry can stay agile and gain improved productivity, in the next wave of digitalisation and other technologies.
“Furthermore, through our expanded international outreach, we aim to enhance our relationships with the ASA, FASA, and the ICS to ensure that SSA will be able to speak with authority on the many challenging regulatory issues confronting our industry as the respected voice of our membership in the international arena.
“In all these endeavours, we will continue to work closely and collaboratively with other maritime Singapore stakeholders, especially the MPA, the SMF, the SMEF and SMOU & SOS, to coordinate many worthwhile initiatives – always with the overriding aim of benefitting our members as we navigate the future together.”
